Dalton Richards works with Balefire’s Insurance team, identifying planning opportunities designed to add value for clients, with a focus on tax efficiency and family legacy. He also supports Balefire’s Ripple program, helping clients build and grow nonprofit endowment assets.
Dalton began his career in Balefire’s financial planning department, where he saw firsthand the problems that come up most often for the firm’s clients and worked on solutions to address them. As his career progressed, he began working directly alongside Balefire’s senior advisors, deepening his knowledge of estate and legacy planning strategies for high-net-worth clients.
His financial planning background gives Dalton a strong ability to review a client’s existing financial plan and balance sheet and surface additional planning opportunities the team can bring back to the client. He works with business owners and high-net-worth clients on retirement tax planning strategies, Ripple plans, and cash balance plans.
Within insurance planning, Dalton often helps clients see life insurance not as an added cost, but as a way to reposition assets within a broader estate and legacy strategy. He also works to correct a common misconception, that a policy’s only value is its death benefit, by helping clients understand how tax-advantaged income and death benefit together can support a financial and legacy plan.
At Balefire, Dalton brings a planning-first perspective to insurance strategy, helping business owners and high-net-worth families connect insurance decisions to their larger goals.
Dalton lives in Rigby, Idaho, where he enjoys fly fishing, hiking in the mountains, and spending time with his family. A devoted husband and father, he’s grounded by his faith and passionate about living with purpose.
